GPS Buyers Guide For RV’ers

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Thinking about a new GPS? The task of selecting the one, that's right for you can be very intimidating. With so many big brands, models and features to choose from, how do you know which one to buy?

When picking a GPS, the most important question is: "What I want to do with it?" Every car GPS device will tell you where you are and where they go without whatever you lost. As RV'ers, we all must meet a number of basic needs of our GPS.Furthermore, it is entirely up to you whether you want and are willing to pay the extra money for certain features.

Pre-Loaded Maps

The first factor is what you need cards pre-loaded into your GPS. Of course, this depends on where you plan to travel. Many systems are loaded with road maps for the entire United States and Canada in their memory. Some come with all of North America and some come with Europe as well. This gives you the luxury to goanywhere, without worrying about whether you downloaded the right cards, it also makes the device ready-to-roll, right out of the box. Preloaded maps to occupy part of the main memory of the GPS, the excess can be used for additional memory cards, MP3 music or custom POIs can be used. This brings us to storage capacity.

Storage

How much memory can hold your GPS is very important. If you buy a unit that very little extra memory and can notbe expanded, you may be wondering unable to function or add-points-of-Interest (POI), if you want. Many GPS models contain enough memory to load its predetermined cards, with very little left. This is only a problem if they do not have a memory expansion slot. A memory expansion slot allows you to memory to add the GPS should you ever need. Most take a Secure Digital (SD) card for memory expansion. SD cards are not expensive and a good way to add memory to yourDevice when you need it. More expensive units are usually free to a considerable amount of memory for your use and also have a memory expansion slot. Less expensive units typically use most or all of their memory for built-in features, but most of them have a memory expansion slot.

Text To Speech

Another important function is to look for "Text to Speech." Most voice-prompted GPS devices will give an audio alert, such as "Turn left in 300 meters"or "Next Exit." A unit with a text-to-speech feature speaks not only the direction, but the name of the street as well: "Turn in Mulberry Lane in 300 meters turn left" or "Take Exit 23A." This is a great help for many people, especially RV'ers because they do not even look at the screen, where they go.

Live Traffic Service

One has to take account of major new Live Traffic Service. Available in the larger cities have a subscription to a traffic service you in real time,up-to-the-minute updates on traffic and road conditions. Highway from Exit 23 to Exit 29 blocked? Your GPS teaches you and offer an alternative route. After a free trial period, traffic service costs usually about $ 7/month. Some Garmin units also offer XM radio service, so that you not only traffic, but XM Satellite Radio live, how well can.

Even on a typical traffic service is the new and improved MSN Direct service. Many of the upper end of the Garmin units, like the Nuvi 780come with this ability. With MSN Direct, you can check the weather, to detour traffic congestion and backups, compare local gas prices get enhanced movie listings, stock information, news and local events when you travel with your device. Even plan trips from the comfort of your computer using Windows Live Local, and then wirelessly send locations to your GPS. Like a traffic service, MSN Direct will pay a monthly fee after the free trial period.

Bluetooth Enabled

One of thelatest additions to GPS systems is the integration of a Bluetooth chip. If both your phone and Bluetooth-enabled GPS device, then you can integrate for two to handsfree, dial-a-POI features and much more to make your complete automotive electronics suite. Many camp POI lists as the CoolRVToyz Ultimate RV Parks & Campgrounds Directory uses this feature to the Garmin GPS devices and allows you to dial a camp-site hands-freeof a touch-screen GPS.

MP3-Enabled

Another new addition to GPS systems is the ability to play MP3 music. By loading your favorite MP3 music or audio book into your GPS, you can either through the speakers of the GPS 'or play your in-dash radio. Many of the better GPS device also features an FM transmitter to them will link directly to your in-dash radio, the music comes from the stereo system of your vehicle. This isparticularly useful because the GPS automatically the volume of the music to give you directions, or if you receive a call.

Guides and Tour Guide ™

One of the most exciting new features, the new Garmin Tour Guide ™ capability. With Tour Guide ™ you can buy fully guided tours for your GPS. Take the tour guide ™ and simply follow the tour. Your GPS will bring you to points of interest to you, they explain and show youPhotos. It's like having your own tour guide right along for the ride.

Conclusion

Among the most popular GPS navigation systems for RV'ers are the Garmin Nuvi 200, 360 and 680, the Lowrance IWAY 600C, the Garmin StreetPilot c550, Magellan Maestro 4040 and CrossOver GPS, and TomTom ONE 3rd Edition. So what is GPS, the "best?" It all depends on your needs, your desires and your budget.

Speeding Ticket Myths and How to Never Pay a Ticket Again

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

I recently got a ticket for speeding 50mph in a go 35MPH zone. The officers involved in the routine traffic were simply doing their job by myself and two other people over. They had a little more money for their outrageous salaries and give all the other wasteful government programs in the city.

While I understand that the acceleration is against the law, I also understand that I have the right to defend myself against illegal or incomplete actions of the police. In my situation, I followed a series of guidelines, which saves me until the end of several hundred dollars in fines and a possible increase in my insurance.

I followed these steps below. If you do the same, the chances of escaping criminal prosecution is very high.
If you get stopped for the first time, follow the instructions of the officer. Ask not what they say. Do they believe that you make things very easy for them.
Most of the time, the officer will ask whetherShe knew that to speed up. Responded that she had no idea. Never admit that you've been faster, even when you know you were. Make approval of acceleration at this time, it is much harder for you to defend yourself later.
Take notes of what you see here. Do not take what you wear, what the weather is like when unusual aspects in your environment. You can have this information before the court.
When the officer brings you to sign the completed ticket, ask him to see the radar –gun. Officers are not trained to see the weapon. They hate questioned, and they do not want to give you any leeway. Contrary to popular belief, an officer is not required to have evidence at the crime scene. Although his refusal to show you the radar gun, he weakens his case, they should make to the court.
If he lets you see the gun, take note of what model it is when it is mounted on the dashboard or a handheld, whether they are any spots on him is. Very specific withthe officer that you see the serial number. They do all this to the officer that he should be ready to fight.
It specifies a date on the ticket if you pay either and your right to a trial, wave or appear in court to keep your plea. This date is very important because you are legally obliged to respond to the charges this time. You need not go to court in most cases, these "pre-trial", you can simply mail or fax a plea of "notguilty "in most communities. There is no reason for you to go to court that day, and you want to be sure not to waste your time with that, if at all possible.
Now that your charge (parking tickets) received, it is time to start on your defense. You must by the law that you start to break the accused. If you find the specific law, review the differences between what you experienced and what the law is to protect from. If the lawsays something quite different than what you say, do not then you can go to court and then prove it. When the more likely scenario is that your memory of events than what the officers have claimed that they are different tools to defend yourself with all the rules of art.
Defense itself can be difficult, because you are fighting against trained professionals. The good thing is that they are not interested so much about this case because they know that it just about money. What offer is most prosecutors that a plea bargain rather than a moving violation with no points. If you want to qualify for this offer, you will have to pay probably more than the ticket would have cost you, but it will take will not affect your insurance or driving.
If you choose to admit guilt through a plea bargain, you need to do a little. The research will always documents for the training of the history of the officer, the police, to how the device should be used, theRecords of the calibration of the device and the user manual of your device. All these points can be obtained through a court order as a "discovery". Ready for a not so happy, prosecutor, if you ask for all this working. Remember, he only wants his money
If you have received all the documentation about the device and an officer, you are ready to defend themselves in court. You have to hope that the officer will not be displayed, but if he does, all the documents to prove that theirInnocence.
In the event that the officer did not come to court, you can grill him on special features in the manual. If and when he is not aware of the guidelines in the book, you are weakening its case against you. Be sure to never give up and show them that you mean business.

I can understand if you are reluctant to car video installationSystems in your car. You might think that there is probably a lot of costs. Well It's not as expensive as you might think. A year ago, when I decided to buy a minibus, I also saw in-car video systems. I thought that it would be really useful to a family oriented vehicle like a minivan. To my surprise I found out that it only costs for two other large, in order to install them in my car. Although it is still sound expensive, it is still worth the cost if car video systems helpsurvive the long and grueling road trips.

You can receive a TV screen and DVD player, when you invest in car video systems. I did not regret my decision for one to install in my car. It really is a difference to the long car trips that I ever do have years. I can now concentrate on the road without worrying about keeping the children. No more complaining and crying from the backseat. My young eyes are on the cartoon characters do what they focused on the screen. CarVideo systems have really long journey was much more fun for me and my family. We now look forward more of these trips, knowing fully that my family are all well in the car.
